FAQs
2 main elements explain perfume duration time: Perfume concentration and the olfactory family of the perfume raw material. An Eau de Toilette is composed of 8-12% of perfume oil, it’s more concentrated than an Eau de Cologne but less than an Eau de Parfum. The more concentrated is a perfume, the more the perfume is strong but it’s not the only factor: the raw material used also has an impact on the strength of the fragrance. For instance, Essences like Jasmine, Rose or Orange Blossom will be stronger than fresher scents like Verbena.
In terms of duration, an Eau de Toilette will last between 3 to 4 hours depending on those two elements. If you want to keep the perfume presence all day long, you can spray your Eau de Toilette again during the day, or use our Perfume roll-on to add some fragrance hints easily.
Depending on the result you look for there are multiple ways to use an EDT:
- Apply on clean, moisturized skin: hydration will retain scent longer.
- Target pulse points: These areas include your wrists, neck, behind your ears and inner elbows. The warmth from these spots helps to diffuse the fragrance. Avoid rubbing the fragrance after application as this can break down the scent molecules and diminish its longevity.
- Spray from the perfect distance: Hold the bottle 6 to 8 inches away from your skin when spraying to avoid concentrated spots.
- Layer the fragrance with matching scent products such as body lotion, shower gel and hand cream to enhance its staying power.
- Reapply as needed all along the day.
An Eau de Toilette (EDT) is a light and fresh perfume formulated with between 8-12% of perfume oils. It’s more than a body spray or a Cologne but less than an Eau de Parfum (EDP) or an Extrait de Parfum.
The main difference between a body spray or a body mist and an EDT is the perfume oil concentration in the formula. A body spray contains between 3-5% of perfume oils. It’s less than our Elixir Floral concentrated at between 8 and 12%. This gives body spray a lighter scent and less longevity than Eau de Toilette.

- Perfume oil concentration in the formula: While an Eau de Toilette (EDT) contains 8 to 12% of Perfume oil in its formula, Eau de Parfum or eau de perfume (EDP) contains 15 to 20% of it.
- EDP has a stronger scent: the perfume oil concentration makes it stronger than an EDT. The EDT will be fresher and lighter than the Eau de Parfum, perfect if you don’t like strong perfumes or if you want to wear something more subtle.
- Perfume longevity: An EDP lasts around 4 to 5 hours approximately. It’s more than an Eau de Toilette which lasts between 3 to 4 hours. The Parfum with its high concentration in perfume oil (20-30%) has the highest longevity (6-8 hours). Of course, it depends on the quantity and the quality of perfume you use.
